KOROGOCHO, WHERE WE WORK
Korogocho Slum has a population of 180,000, making it the third largest slum of the 36 shanty towns surrounding Nairobi city. It is internally divided into “villages” (Gitathuru, Nyayo, Ngomongo, and Kisumu Ndogo) according to the ethnicity. Korogocho is located 7 kilometers from Nairobi City Center and is roughly 1.5 square kilometers in size. Children under 5 years make up 15.5% of the slum’s population and the dependency rate in the slum stands at 58%.
